Throwing knives were a weapon of choice for Judeau, and later Guts. They were also used by Rita in Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage.
Appearance[]
These knives are first seen used by Guts, and chronologically by Judeau. They are fairly small and fin-shaped, being triangular with curved edges leading to a point, somewhat resembling an arrowhead. The handles are small, thin, and align with a ridge down the center. Judeau at first held them in straps on his legs, then in a strap across his chest, which Guts mimicked.
Abilities[]
These knives depend on accuracy, and being too small to deal lethal damage, often need to be thrown at vital points. Guts primarily used them when stealth was necessary, opting for the Repeater Crossbow in situations where less accuracy and attention to ammunition was required.
Story[]
Throwing knives were Judeau's preferred weapon, and he later taught Guts the basics of handling them.[1] Judeau uses them to kill two guards during the mission to rescue Griffith, targeting the men's throats from a distance.[2] Guts uses them to take out two soldiers guarding the Count's quarters,[3] and later against the apostle himself, though their effect on the Count's soft body is minimal. They fail again when aimed at Rosine, who deflects them with her proboscis.[4]
As Guts amasses other weapons and strategies, his use of throwing knives diminishes; his Miniature Bombs provide more reliable impact and the Repeater Crossbow is more forgiving toward ammo consumption. Guts appears to retrieve the knives after the chaos of his battles ends as they are usually seen with him afterward. However, after the Berserker Armor is acquired, they disappear from use.
The knives reappear while Guts is training in Elfhelm. He attempts to strike a fruit down from a tree, but misses his target due to the Berserker Armor negatively affecting his senses.[5]
