Changes: Queen of Midland

The Queen of Midland was Charlotte's step mother. She disapproved of Charlotte's interest in Griffith and became angry at Griffith for plotting the death of her secret lover Julius.

Appearance

The Queen is a middle-aged, aristocratic woman usually dressed in clothes typical of medieval European royalty, with a cold, disapproving gaze. She also holds a fan in her hand, and when mourning for Julius' murder she adorns clothes befitting a funeral.

Personality

The Queen of Midland is a manipulative, caustic woman who cheats on her husband with his brother, and conspires to kill Griffith because he became a noble despite his origins as a "mere commoner". However she is shown to love and deeply care for Julius, having regret, even furious at Julius' death, which surprised her as she merely considered him a consort.

In the anime, the Queen never had the affair with Count Julius. She was seen remembering Princess Charlotte giving Griffith the stone knight. She was apparently acting out of pride of the nobility, as she is seen thinking that the 'nobility is now secure.'
