Great Berserk Exhibition logo

The Great Berserk Exhibition (大ベルセルク展) celebrates the 32-year career of Berserk manga creator Kentarou Miura. It showcases a comprehensive collection of Miura's artworks, including many original sketches, illustrations, and manuscripts, which have been displayed in chronological order to detail the progression of the story. It is the first independent exhibit of the manga series.

This is a traveling exhibition, organized by an executive committee with partnership participation from Art of War, Prime 1 Studio, and Max Factory. There are plans to create an online souvenir store.

History[]

On 18 September 2020, a website was launched (then https://www.younganimal.com/berserk/special/) that later redirected to an announcement about a 2021 exhibition celebrating the 30th anniversary of Berserk, called the "Great Berserk Exhibition" (Dai Berserk-ten). Originally planned for 30 January-15 February at the Sunshine City Exhibition Hall (4th floor of Import Mart Building, 3-1-3 Higashiikebukuro, Toyoshima-ku, Tokyo 170-0013), it was postponed due to COVID-19.

Hiroaki Iwanaga and Toa Yukinari, the voice actors for Guts and Casca in the Berserk 2016 anime series, were to present highlights of the exhibition on a special broadcast on Tokyo MX on 24 January 2021.

Due to the postponement, all tickets sold were refunded from 15 January to 18 February 2021 at Lawson and Ministop stores. The exhibition was rescheduled for 10–23 September 2021 at the same venue. Detailed information was released on the official website and Twitter. The exhibition subtitle added was "Kentarou Miura through 32 Years of Illustration" (三浦建太郎 画業32年の軌跡).

Admission was ¥2000, with an optional voice guide for an additional ¥700, recorded by the voices of Puck (Kaoru Mizuhara), Isidro (Hiro Shimono), Schierke (Chiwa Saitō), and Ivalera (Satomi Arai) from the 2016 anime series. Entry was free for children under 12. Advance tickets were available from 19 December 2020 to 29 January 2021 for ¥1800, with day-of-exhibition tickets priced between ¥5000–¥5200 including commemorative items (a beherit pendant from Art of War and a Dragon Slayer pin). An exclusive preview for 200 people was planned for 29 January, including a video message from Kentarou Miura, a special size B1 poster for each attendee, and early merchandise access. Despite the exhibition's initial postponement, Miura's video message was broadcast on 18 July 2021.

On 8 September 2021, a (ja) video from Susumu Hirasawa was shared in anticipation of the exhibition, and a preview on 9 September showcased manga illustrations, panels, and a sculpture of Zodd. Takayuki Nagashima from Young Animal shared in an NHK interview that Miura hoped the exhibition would allow readers to directly appreciate his work and the passion infused in his creations. A video with Toa Yukinari, voice of Casca, was also featured.

Promotion[]

The manga reading app "マンガPark", created and operated by Hakusensha, commemorated the exhibition with a promotion offering free Berserk episodes and volumes from 1 September 2021 until 23 September 2021. Also, a release of "Read in one sitting! Berserk Special Edition Vol. 1 - Golden Age - 363 pages" (一気読み!『ベルセルク』スペシャル編集版 第1集 -黄金時代編- 363ページ), a volume made for the promotion of the films in 2012, was offered.

Following the launch of Berserk: The Golden Age Arc - Memorial Edition and the Ginza stop of the exhibition, a message from Kendo Kobayashi (voice actor of Bazuso in the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc film trilogy and the Memorial Edition) was shared.
