Farnese (ファルネーゼ, Farunēze?) is a noblewoman who led the Holy See's ceremonial guard, the Holy Iron Chain Knights. She would later become a secondary protagonist as a member of Guts' New Party.

Appearance

Farnese is shown as a relatively skinny and pale young woman. Her hair is blonde and straight, originally much longer but following her haircut it reaches down to her neck. She has dark blue/purple eyes.

Personality

Fairly pyromaniacal (and possibly a pyrophiliac), Farnese's habit of maniacally burning things she didn't like, along with her lack of empathy due to her poor upbringing provoked her to hunt down and burn supposed witches and pagans at the stake. This fueled a secret sadistic pleasure that she constantly tried to deny.

After joining Guts' New Party, Farnese has shown great changes in her personality. She has become a much more sympathetic human being. And her job of taking care of Casca (who's suffering from dementia), has also made Farnese much more responsible and dependable.

Life

Retribution Arc

Since the leader position of the Holy Iron Chain Knights had been traditionally held by a woman, Farnese was appointed during her stay at the convent she was sent to by her father, Federico do Vandimion III, after having set fire to the Vandimion Mansion because her father had plans to arrange a marriage for her.

She and Serpico left their Holy See positions after her faith was shattered during the devastation of St. Albion and the events surrounding Griffith's reincarnation.

Millennium Falcon Arc

Farnese would eventually choose to follow Guts in hopes of learning more about the world. After becoming a member of Guts' New Party, Farnese began to study witchcraft under Schierke's tutelage, much to Serpico's distress, as it was a sign that she had completely abandoned her former life as leader of the Holy Iron Chain Knights.

In order to obtain a ship for travelling from Vritanis to the island of Skellig, Farnese became betrothed to Roderick, a sea captain of Ys. It is not certain whether there is real chemistry between the two.
