Benedikte is a blind girl who is a childhood friend of Grunbeld's. She serves as a spiritual guide for Grunbeld and primary catalyst for his becoming an apostle.

Story[]

Benedikte, accompanied by her wolf Ludvig, first encounters a young Grunbeld after he is beaten by other kids and left for dead in a forest. Despite her visual blindness, Benedikte possesses a unique form of perception – she "sees" with her heart, which allows her to discern Grunbeld as a large, red figure, prompting her to refer to him as a dragon. Benedikte heals him by bringing him to a hot spring and prophesies his future transformation into a powerful dragon capable of burning down enemies and breaking blades with his hard scales.

As Grunbeld grows older and becomes embroiled in the struggles and military conflicts of the Grand Duchy of Grant, Benedikte takes on a spiritual role within Grant as one of its priestesses.

At some point, Grunbeld finds a beherit and visits Benedikte at the Temple of Extinguishment to ask her about the object.

During a victory celebration after a significant triumph, Grunbeld and Benedikte reconnect at the spring where they first met.

An assassination attempt is made on Benedikte, orchestrated by Grand Duchess Fulda, though she is saved by the intervention of Sigur, who eliminates all of the assailants. Later at the Temple of Extinguishment, while Benedikte is foretelling Grunbeld's future, Sigur arrives, bearing news of an envoy from Midland in the capital, to which Grunbeld sets off. Following Grunbeld's departure, the temple is attacked, with Sigur and Benedikte inside, by Edvard and Mateusz. Inside, a fight breaks out, but the two young women manage to escape with the help of Ludvig. However, both women are severely injured during the escape, and Benedikte is mortally wounded.

In her final moments, as she is dying in Grunbeld's embrace, Benedikte imparts her last words to Grunbeld, telling him to "Search for the [Falcon of Light]. Go on living."

Following Grunbeld's activation of his beherit, Benedikte becomes involved in the consequent sacrificial ceremony conducted by the God Hand. In her last moments, she is shown through a vortex opened by the God Hand, and Grunbeld is asked to sacrifice her in exchange for new life and greater power to continue on fighting. Benedikte's death ultimately fulfills the prophecy she set for Grunbeld, serving as a primary catalyst for his transformation into a powerful dragon apostle.
