The "Grey Knight" Bazuso (バズーソ Bazūso?) was widely known and feared and was one of the earliest adversaries faced by a young Guts, and is the reason that Griffith took notice in Guts.

Appearance

Bazuso is exaggerated in stature, and stands much taller than other men. Although he is killed before he can be seen without his armor, it can be inferred that he was very muscular, due to the excessive size of his weapon as well as the incredible size and weight of his armor.

Personality

Bazuso is a violent man, completely devoid of pity and without remorse. He is arrogant and views himself as superior to his foes, looking down on others as weak. He bears an insatiable blood lust and possesses incredible physical strength, which allows him to easily slay any that challenge him. However, after it was clear he had lost, he begged for mercy.

Abilities and Skills

He was powerful enough to be well known and easily recognizable. It was said that he could take on over thirty men in combat and that he defeated a bear by himself; a testament to his incredible physical strength.

Equipment

Bazuso wielded a large battleaxe during his fight against Guts. Due to his fearsome reputation, one can assume that he was most likely very skilled in wielding it. Furthermore, the size of the battleaxe fit well with Bazuso's height.

History

Golden Age Arc

Kill

Bazuso mortally wounded

Bazuso was placed in charge of a fortress that a group of mercenaries raided, but the group was frozen at the sight and reputation of the man. Guts came forward after telling his employer that he would kill Bazuso for seven pieces of gold. Though Bazuso was intending to humor Guts before killing him, they ended up fighting on equal terms, with Guts fortunate enough to be able to damage Bazuso's battleaxe and deliver a powerful slash to his waist, which forced the large man to his knees. Bazuso's final moments involved pleading for his life as Guts drove his sword down into his head, splitting it half-way, one of Bazuso's eyes dislodged from the impact.

Trivia

  • The appearance of his helmet, weapon, and armor differs between the manga, anime, and film trilogy.
  • The video game series Dark Souls' director Hidetaka Miyazaki attributes the inspiration of the character "Siegmeyer of Catarina" to Bazuso.
  • In Dark Souls II, once can don a set of armor very similar to Bazuso's.
