Bazuso was placed in charge of a fortress that a group of mercenaries raid, but the group was frozen at the sight and reputation of the man. Guts came forward after telling his employer he would kill Bazuso for seven pieces of gold. Though Bazuso was intent to humor Guts, he found them fighting in equal terms with Guts fortunate to be able to damage Bazuso's battleaxe and deliver a powerful slash to his waist that forced the large man to his knees. Bazuso's final moments involved pleading for his life as Guts drove his sword down into his head, splitting it half-way with one of his eyes dislodged from the impact.
