Appearance[]

Personality[]

Not much is known of Annette prior to her illness. But after Balzac gave her an elixir derived from the Mandragora Heart, she mentally regressed to a child and became unable to speak and easily distracted by shiny objects or creatures (such as Puck).

Story[]

The wife of Balzac as the good man he once was, Annette contracted an illness that drove him mad as he resolved to find a way to save her. The chance presented itself when Balzac acquired half of the heart of the Mandragora plant that spawned in a village near the borders of his domain, using it to develop a drug extract to cure his wife. But it had unforeseen side-effects: namely Annette not aging anymore and losing all her memories. Balzac assumed he can restore his wife's mind by acquiring the rest of the Mandragora Heart.

Annette was left to her devices before Puck found her and assumed that she was Balzac's daughter while she easily befriended Casca. When Guts and Rita find Annette and bring her with them, they learn her true identity and left her behind with a dying Balzac. When Balzac's blood reached the Beherit that Rita unknowingly dropped, the baron offered Annette to the God Hand as a sacrifice to be reborn as an Apostle.

Notes[]

  • Annette possesses similarities to Casca, though reversed in order: both becoming shells of their former selves to their respective lovers' horror and both branded sacrifices.
